" Gullaks"

The word " Gullak" reminds everyone of their childhood days . These tiny banks were itself a prized possession .In olden days piggy banks were used to inculcate the habit of money saving amongst children.
Looking at the vulnerability of banks in present scenario , depositing the money in banks has become a risky affair ....so the childhood habit holds significance in adulthood too...😅.
Jokes apart....in addition to taking shelter from these banks to safeguard our hard earned money, we can use the age old gullaks too because one should never put all the eggs in the same basket.
The term Gullak can be seen as ' gul' means 'flower' , ' luck' means destiny....means "" flowery destiny"".
Yes... in times of financial crunch one can actually change one's fortune by judicious use of these piggy banks. Someone has so truly said-
" Take care of pennies,
and pounds will take care of themselves".
Umpteen innovative ways are there to make big use of these small pots. One can plan to start with one on any occasion like birthday , anniversary, Diwali, new year Eve etc. and to continue for desired period of time. If anyone is fond of traveling then a separate Gullak can be assigned for collecting the travel fund only. Same way a separate can be assigned for health fund, education etc. and can be used in times of need. The fund collected may not be sufficient to fulfill the need but certainly would be a big support to reduce the burden.

Another interesting way to save money especially for the newly weds is to put all the collected money ( shaguns) during all the first festivals of marriage and further on arrival of your little bundle of joy( first baby) again all the first festivals will add up to the piggy bank. All would agree that these small remunerations from our near and dear ones actually go unnoticed in our routine expenses. Also it creates many fun moments too during whole of the process. Finally the glee in the eyes while counting the collected sum on a decided day is simply unmatchable. This whole exercise may sound simple but while doing one realises that it really needs good self control and determination.
So folks!! if the idea of gullaks clicks with you ,then go and buy one or few for yourself and take a start to collect the tiny drops to make big ocean one day!!
